Video Contest rules

he video contest (the “Contest”) is organized by Collège Gosselin (the “Organizer”). The Contest begins on July 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. and ends on September 17, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

For its very first edition, the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo 2023 presents a video competition under the theme “Evolution”. Contestants must produce an original, live-action short film lasting no more than 2 minutes (120 seconds). Participants may enter only one of the two Photo & Video Shows, either in Quebec City or Brossard. Eight (8) finalists per show will be selected from all entries received. Each Salon de la Photo et Vidéo will hold a screening of the 8 finalist creations selected. The 1er , 2e and 3e positions will be revealed at the end of each screening.

1. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Entry to the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition is free of charge. Any live-action production (fiction, documentary, music video, experimental, fake trailer, etc.) may be submitted, with the exception of advertising or industrial films. Stop-motion animation and special effects are accepted.

1.1 Conditions for making the short film
Short films must have been made after January 1er 2023 and not exceed 120 seconds in length (including credits).

1.2 Conditions for the production of the short film
Short films must be made on an “amateur” basis. This term designates short films financed by the film crew itself or via a crowdfunding system, as well as short films made as part of an initial or continuing training program (film workshop or school, high school, CEGEP, university, etc.) or as part of an association. The filmmakers are free to choose their own techniques. Short films must be based on original scripts, and may not include extracts from existing films, but may be inspired by or refer to them. Any short film entered in the catalog of a production or distribution company, or any short film purchased by a television channel before the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo short film competition, will be automatically withdrawn from the selection.

The participant declares and guarantees to the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest that he/she is the exclusive owner of the intellectual property rights and, more generally, that he/she has all the necessary authorizations to broadcast and present this short film. The participant declares and guarantees to the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest that he/she has obtained prior written authorization from the identifiable persons presented or the persons who own the goods represented, so that the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest cannot be held liable for the use of the short film in the context of this contest.

1.3 Conditions concerning the topics covered
The themes of the short films must correspond to the theme of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition, while complying with current legislation. In particular, participants undertake to ensure that their short film :

– Respects the intellectual property rights of third parties;

– Respects public order and is not contrary to public decency;

– Does not harm the reputation, privacy or image of third parties;

– Does not contain derogatory, defamatory, aggressive or abusive language;

– Not paedophile in nature;

– Does not contain messages or information of a political, religious, pornographic or xenophobic nature, or which may offend minors or the general public;

– Does not undermine the security or integrity of a state or territory;

– Does not incite discrimination based on gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, age or political opinion;

– Does not incite crime, hatred, violence, suicide or racism;

Does not incite to commit a crime, a misdemeanor or an act of terrorism;

This list is not exhaustive.

The organizer of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition reserves the right, without having to justify its decision, to withdraw from the selection any short films that fall within or that it considers to fall within the categories listed above, as well as any short film that may be detrimental to its image, activities, values, reputation or notoriety.

If the short film is produced in a foreign language, it must be subtitled in French.

1.4 Conditions concerning the director(s)
This contest is open to residents of the province of Quebec who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry, with the exception of employees of the Organizer, agents of organizations, companies and suppliers, advertising and promotional representatives or agents, ambassadors and collaborators associated with the Organizer, as well as members of their immediate families (brothers, sisters, children, father, mother), their legal or common-law spouses and persons with whom such employees, representatives and agents, ambassadors and collaborators reside.

1.5 Selecting the location for the short film screening

The presentations of the short films selected for the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest will take place on October 13-14-15, 2023 in Quebec City and on October 21-22, 2023 in Brossard. Consequently, one (1) contest will be held per show. The participant(s) must select in the entry form which city, between Quebec City and Brossard, they wish to enter. Only one submission per short film will be accepted.

2. REGISTRATION FORMALITIES

Participation in the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest is by electronic registration on the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo website, and sending a viewing copy of the short film no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on September 17, 2023.

Short films already submitted may not be re-entered, even in a new version. The organizer of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest reserves the right to refuse any short film entry that does not appear to meet the conditions of participation defined in article 1 of the contest rules, without having to justify its decision.

2.1 Persons authorized to register short films
Registration is made by one of the short film’s rights holders. it must be screened at the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo in Brossard or Quebec City. dans l’éventualité où le court-métrage soit sélectionné comme finaliste. A registration form must be completed on the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition website (https://salondelaphotoetvideo.ca/).

Participants are informed and accept that the information provided in the registration form attests to their identity. The Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest reserves the right to verify the accuracy of the data provided by participants. Participants undertake to complete the registration form in good faith and to provide accurate and non-infringing information. Entries to the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition will be rejected if they contain incorrect, incomplete or forged information, or if they are made in a manner that contravenes these rules.

2.2 Viewing copy
Participants send a viewing copy of their short film via the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest website (https://salondelaphotoetvideo.ca/).

2.3 Other items to be sent
The following information must be provided on the registration form:

– One (1) digital photograph of the short film for use in any medium;

– One (1) digital photograph of the director(s);

– One (1) short film presentation or synopsis of a maximum of 200 words.

3. SHORT FILM PRE-SELECTION

Viewing copies received for competition will be subject to pre-selection by the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo Video Competition Organizing Committee according to artistic and technical criteria. Pre-selection for the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition is final and without appeal. The results of the pre-selection will be sent by e-mail to participants on October 2, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. ET. The list of pre-selected short films will be available on the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition website at the same date and time https://salondelaphotoetvideo.ca/.)

4. JURY AND AWARDS

4.1 Jury composition and deliberations
The jury responsible for selecting the winner will be made up of 3 judges: a representative of the organizing committee, a representative of a sponsor and a film professional. Jury deliberations will be by score. Jury decisions are final.

4.2 Jury evaluation criteria
The short film will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • – Respect for the theme (20%)
  • 10% relevance
  • Reflectance depth 10%
  • Script quality (20%)
  • Quality of the writing 10% of the time
  • Ability to captivate 10% of the audience
  • Assembly quality (20%)
  • 10% fluidity
  • 10% consistency
  • Artistic and visual quality (20%)
  • Photography and colorization quality 10%.
  • Quality of sets, costumes and staging 10%.
  • Originality of the short film (20%)
  • 10% creativity
  • 10% boldness

In the event that a short film is co-directed, one of the directors must be designated as “principal director” at the time of registration. If the short film wins one of the prizes, the “principal director” will be the only one to receive the prizes awarded by the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition. The distribution of the prizes to the co-director(s) will then be the sole responsibility of the co-director(s). The organizer of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition cannot be held responsible for the way in which the prizes are divided between the co-directors. The same applies if several people have contributed to the creation of the short film on the same workstation (several scriptwriters, several editors, etc.). The amount indicated for each endowment is not contractual.

4.4 Announcing the winners and awarding prizes

The winners of the Photo & Video Show video competition will be announced and prizes awarded at the end of each screening. The presence of the participants, or one of their representatives, is required, except in special cases. Prizes will be presented in person by a representative of the Photo & Video Show at the end of each screening. Should the winners be unavailable on the date of the prize-giving ceremony, the Photo & Video Show will inform them of the results at a later date. Prizes will be awarded by name, in accordance with the surname, first name and address communicated by the participant when registering for the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo short film competition. If the information or contact details communicated by the participant do not enable him/her to be informed of his/her prize, he/she will lose the status of winner and will not be able to make any claim. In the event that the winner is unable to benefit, in whole or in part, from his/her prize, for any reason whatsoever, he/she will forfeit the benefit, without the possibility of obtaining any compensation whatsoever.

4.5 Publication of results
The Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition reserves the right to distribute the list of winners to all publications (print and digital), websites and social networks.

5. AUTHORIZATIONS

5.1 Authorization to reproduce and distribute short films
The participant authorizes the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest, free of charge, from the time of registration and for the entire world:

– To digitize or remaster the short film, to store it on any medium, to modulate, compress and decompress it or to use any other technical process of the same nature with regard to the digitized short film for the purposes of its storage, transfer and/or exploitation;

– To produce or have produced, without limitation as to the number of copies, all originals, duplicates or copies of the short film, on all analog and digital media, in all formats and by all processes known or unknown to date (in particular CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, USB sticks, hard disks, servers, etc.);

– To circulate or cause to be circulated such originals, duplicates or copies for the purpose of selecting short films and promoting the activities of the Photo and Video Show short film competition, provided that no revenue is generated for the Photo and Video Show short film competition;

– To broadcast or arrange for the broadcast of all or part of the short film, in its original version or with subtitles, in all public events, cinemas, festivals and in the spaces of cultural and educational institutions for the purposes of promoting the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition;

– To reproduce and represent any excerpt or fragment of the short film, as well as any image and any sound element of the short film to produce and exploit trailers, teasers or any other audiovisual work for the promotional needs of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest;

To broadcast or have broadcast all or an excerpt of the short film for the purposes of promoting the Photo and Video Show video competition on the Internet, the cell phone network, by any process inherent to this mode of exploitation, known or unknown to date, by live broadcast involving temporary reproduction without the possibility of downloading, by broadcasting on social networks and video hosting sites.

5.2 Authorization to use photographs and texts
The participant hereby authorizes the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo to use and exploit the texts and photographs provided at the time of registration, free of charge, by reproduction and/or representation, as part of a communication to the public for the purpose of promoting the activities of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo short film competition. This use may be made by any means and on any communication medium, including but not limited to: by any electronic communication medium such as the Internet and telephone networks, by videogram (DVD, Blu-Ray Disc, etc.), in any movie theater, in any publication (books, catalogs, etc.), in any interactive program, etc. Texts and photographs may be subject to translation, correction or modification prior to publication.

5.3 Image rights
The participant (or his/her legal representative) agrees to be filmed, photographed and interviewed during his/her participation in the Salon de la photo et vidéo video contest.

6. ARCHIVING

Upon registration, the participant graciously authorizes the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition to preserve and archive the short films submitted for selection. The Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition may, in order to preserve the archives, transfer them to new media, known or unknown at this time.

7. GUARANTEES

The participant declares and guarantees :

– That he is competent to register the short film on behalf of all rights holders;

– That he/she holds or has acquired all the rights and authorizations necessary for the exploitation of the short film;

– That the rights to the music used in the short film are in the public domain, belong to the participant or have been acquired by the participant from the rights holders;

– That the use of the short film does not infringe any third-party rights, in particular intellectual property rights, privacy rights, image rights, ownership rights, etc.

The participant indemnifies the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest against any and all claims, demands, evictions, actions or complaints by third parties on any grounds whatsoever.

8. ACCREDITATION

The selection of a short film entered in the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video contest entitles the winner to accreditation for one (1) to five (5) members of the short film team. This accreditation will take the form of a one (1) day ticket to the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo in Quebec City or Brossard.

9. ON-LINE PUBLICATION OF THESE RULES

Full rules for the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition are available on the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo website (https://salondelaphotoetvideo.ca/).

10. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

Participation in the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo video competition implies express and unreserved acceptance of the terms of these rules. The Photo & Video Show Video Competition reserves the right to cancel entries and to take any other appropriate measures in the event of failure to comply with the terms of these rules or of any attitude that is contrary to the smooth running of the show.

11 – LEGAL INFORMATION AND FINAL PROVISIONS

11.1
By participating in this contest, each entrant acknowledges that Collège Gosselin is not required, under any circumstances, to award more prizes than the number of prizes available, as set out in the official contest rules. In the event that, for any reason whatsoever (including but not limited to any error, malfunction or defect in the design, promotion, management, implementation or administration of the contest, whether mechanical, electronic, human or otherwise), the number of declared winners or the number of prizes claimed by entrants exceeds the number of prizes available, the Organizer reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to terminate the contest in whole or in part, without prior notice, and to award the appropriate number of prizes from among the appropriate number of winners selected in accordance with the contest rules.

11.2
Collège Gosselin assumes no responsibility whatsoever in the event that its inability to act is due to an event or situation beyond its control, or to a strike, lockout or other labour dispute on its premises or on the premises of organizations or companies whose services are used to hold this contest. It reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the contest, in whole or in part, for any reason or circumstance, including in the event that an event beyond its control corrupts or affects the administration, security, impartiality or normal running of the contest, such as a virus, computer bug or unauthorized human intervention.

11.3
By entering or attempting to enter this Contest, each entrant and/or purported entrant agrees to release, discharge and forever hold harmless Collège Gosselin and their respective directors, officers, employees, shareholders, agents or other representatives (collectively, the “Indemnitees”) from and against any and all claims, actions, damages, cause of action, suit, debt, duty, account, bond, agreement, warranty, indemnity, contract or liability of any kind whatsoever arising out of or in connection with entrant’s participation or attempted participation in the Contest, compliance or non-compliance with these Contest Rules, or acceptance and use of the Prize. The Indemnitees will not be held responsible for lost, incomplete, late or misdirected entries, or for any failure of the Contest Website during the Contest Period, or for any technical malfunction or other problems with telephone lines or networks, computer online systems, servers, access providers, equipment or software or for any other technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, and shall not be liable for any injury or damage to any person or property arising out of or in connection with that person’s or any other person’s participation or attempted participation in this Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.

11.4
No communications or correspondence related to the contest will be exchanged with entrants, except with entrants selected as potential prize winners. Personal information collected from entrants in connection with this contest is used solely for the administration of this contest and is subject to the Privacy Policy. No communication, commercial or otherwise, unrelated to this contest will be sent to entrants by Collège Gosselin, unless the entrant has otherwise permitted Collège Gosselin or its affiliates, if any, to do so.
