Photo Contest rules

  1. COMPETITION DURATION AND ORGANIZATION

The photo contest (the “Contest”) is organized by Collège Gosselin (the “Organizer”). The Contest begins on Friday, July 14, at 9:00 a.m. and ends on Sunday, September 24, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

  1. ELIGIBILITY

The contest is open to residents of the province of Quebec who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry, with the exception of employees of the Organizer, agents of organizations, companies and suppliers, advertising and promotional representatives or agents, ambassadors and collaborators associated with the Organizer, as well as members of their immediate families (brothers, sisters, children, father, mother), their legal or common-law spouses and persons with whom such employees, representatives and agents, ambassadors and collaborators reside.

For the purposes of these rules, the participant is the person whose last name, first name and e-mail address are indicated on the entry form.

  1. MODE OF PARTICIPATION AND LIMITS

Entrants must go to the contest section of the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo (www.salondelaphoto.ca/concours/) and fill out the online form, attaching a single photo per category, per first and last name, per e-mail address and per telephone number. Participants may only enter the contest at one of the two Salon de la Photo et Vidéo locations, Quebec City or Brossard.

Limits: Participants must respect the following limits, failing which they may be disqualified:

  • One entry per category, per person, for the duration of the contest, regardless of the number of e-mail addresses held;
  • Choose between participating in the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Québec or the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Brossard.

To enter the contest, participants must complete the following steps:

  • Please fill in the required fields;
  • Upload photo. If the entrant wishes to submit more than one photo, one for each chosen category, he/she must complete a new form and repeat steps a) and b) for each chosen category. Once the form has been sent, it will be impossible to submit new photos in the category in which an entry has already been received, according to the parameters listed in point 3.2 ;
  • Choose whether to participate in the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Québec or the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Brossard.

Choice of categories :

  • Landscapes;
  • Portraits;
  • Animal;
  • Action.

Technical specifications of submitted photos :

  • Formats: .jpg or .png ;
  • Maximum size: 5 Mb ;
  • No signature on the photographs.

Chances of winning: The chances of a participant’s photo being selected depend on the number of photos received during the contest period. However, the photos that make it to the final judging will have respected the limits, technical specifications and theme of the chosen category.

  1. PRICES

Total value of prizes: $10,000. One grand prize and three secondary prizes will be awarded by Salon de la Photo et Vidéo.

  1. AWARDS

At the beginning of the period, on Friday, July 7, 2023, photos will be filtered by photographers appointed by Collège Gosselin. Photos that do not respect the themes and/or technical specifications will be automatically eliminated without notice. This process will continue until the end of the contest on Sunday, September 24 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The photo selection process will continue until 15 photos per category are selected for final judging (60 finalist photos in all).

The photos that make it to the final judging will be determined by four (4) criteria: respect for the theme, aesthetics, photo technique and “coup de coeur”.

The jury, made up of a Collège Gosselin representative, a sponsor and a professional photographer, will determine the finalist photo in each category and, from these four (4) photos (1 per category), the grand-prize winner. They will proceed by elimination according to technique, aesthetics, respect for the theme and “coup de coeur”.

Of all the photos received during the registration period, close to 250 hand-picked photos will be exhibited at Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Québec, on October 13, 14 and 15, 2023, at the Centre de Foires d’Expocité, and another 250 hand-picked photos will be exhibited at Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Brossard, on October 21 and 22, 2023, at the Complexe Sportif Bell, in Brossard.

The unveiling of the winning and finalist photos will take place :

  • Sunday, October 15, 2023 at approximately 3:30 p.m. atSalon de la Photo et Vidéo de Québec, Centre de Foires Expocité, 250 boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel, Québec (Québec) G1L 5A7 ;
  • Sunday, October 22, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. at the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Brossard, Complexe Sportif Bell, 8000 boulevard Leduc #104, Brossard (Québec) J4Y 0E9.
  1. TAKING POSSESSION OF THE PRIZE

If the winners are absent on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. at the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Québec or on Sunday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Salon de la Photo et Vidéo de Brossard, they will be contacted by telephone the following week. They will have to make arrangements with a contest official to pick up their prize.

  1. PHOTO SIGNATURE

For the sake of objectivity during judging, photographs may not be signed. Signed photographs will not be judged and will be automatically disqualified.

  1. TERMS & CONDITIONS

Verification of registrations.

The validity of any entry is subject to verification by the organizer. Any illegible, incomplete or fraudulent entries will be disqualified. Any entrant or person attempting to enter by any means which is contrary to the official contest rules or which otherwise disrupts the operation of this contest or which is likely to be unfair to other entrants or potential entrants will be disqualified. Any decision by the contest judges, who may be employees or independent organizations, including without limitation any question of eligibility or disqualification of any entry or participation, is final.

Price acceptance.

The prize must be accepted as described in these rules and may not be returned or substituted for another prize, nor exchanged in whole or in part for cash, subject only to the provisions of the next paragraph.

Price substitution.

Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and for any reason whatsoever, to substitute a prize or any portion thereof with a prize of equivalent or greater value, including the cash value of the prize.

The winner agrees to abide by the contest eligibility criteria and these rules. Participation in the contest attests to having received and understood these rules.

Prizes/Winners.

By participating in this contest, each entrant acknowledges that Collège Gosselin is not required, under any circumstances, to award more prizes than the number of prizes available, as set out in the official contest rules. If, for any reason whatsoever (including but not limited to any error, malfunction or defect in the design, promotion, management, implementation or administration of the contest, whether mechanical, electronic, human or otherwise), the number of declared winners or the number of prizes claimed by entrants exceeds the number of prizes available, the organizer reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to terminate the contest in whole or in part, without notice, and to award the appropriate number of prizes from among the appropriate number of winners, selected in accordance with the contest rules.

Collège Gosselin assumes no responsibility whatsoever in the event that its inability to act is due to an event or situation beyond its control, or to a strike, lockout or other labour dispute in its facilities or in the facilities of organizations or companies whose services are used to hold this contest. It reserves the right, at its sole and absolute discretion, to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the contest, in whole or in part, for any reason or circumstance, including, without limitation, should an event beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal operation of the contest, such as a virus, computer bug or unauthorized human intervention.

By entering this contest, winners authorize Collège Gosselin to broadcast, publish and otherwise use their name, photograph, likeness, photo, any statement relating to the contest or any prize, place of residence and/or voice for publicity purposes, without compensation of any kind.

By entering or attempting to enter this Contest, each entrant and/or purported entrant agrees to release, discharge and forever hold harmless Collège Gosselin and their respective directors, officers, employees, shareholders, agents or other representatives (collectively, the “Indemnitees”) from and against any and all claims, actions, damages, cause of action, suit, debt, duty, account, bond, agreement, warranty, indemnity, contract or liability of any kind whatsoever arising out of or in connection with entrant’s participation or attempted participation in the Contest, compliance or non-compliance with these Contest Rules, or acceptance and use of the Prize. The Indemnitees will not be held responsible for lost, incomplete, late or misdirected entries, or for any failure of the Contest Website during the Contest Period, or for any technical malfunction or other problems with telephone lines or networks, computer online systems, servers, access providers, equipment or software or for any other technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, or any combination thereof, and shall not be liable for any injury or damage to any person or property arising out of or in connection with that person’s or any other person’s participation or attempted participation in this Contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution.

No communications or correspondence related to the contest will be exchanged with entrants, except with entrants selected as potential prize winners. Personal information collected from entrants in connection with this contest is used solely for the administration of this contest and is subject to the Privacy Policy. No communication, commercial or otherwise, unrelated to this contest will be sent to entrants by Collège Gosselin, unless the entrant has otherwise permitted Collège Gosselin or its affiliates, if any, to do so.
